Know how to ski? Can you strap on a pair of snowshoes? If so, we’ve got a great event for you!

The Birch Hill Shuski, the first race of the winter TRY-athlon Series, will have two types of races. One is competitive and one is more relaxed. Both are run at the same time.  The Competitive Race includes a 5-kilometer skate ski, a 3-kilometer snowshoe, and a 5-kilometer classic ski. The Family Fun Race includes a 1-kilometer freestyle ski, a 1-kilometer snowshoe, and a 1-kilometer freestyle ski (freestyle means you get to choose whether to skate or classic).

The event happens Friday, Dec 30. Registration is held from 2pm-2:45pm. Both races start at 3pm. The races will be held on the Jim Whisenhant Cross Country Ski Trails at Birch Hill Recreation Area. Registration will be held in the Birch Hill Cross Country Ski Center.

All ages are invited to participate. Oh, and the event is free! For more information and to pre-register call 459-1070.

This event is sponsored by the Fairbanks North Star Borough Parks and Recreation Department, the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks, Trax Outdoor Center, and the UAF Department of Adventure and Wellness.
