Have you got your skis ready? How about your costumes? The 14th annual Ski for Women is right around the corner!

This Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks event, to be held on Sunday, April 3, at Birch Hill Recreation Area, aims to get women out skiing and to raise money for the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living (IAC). Event cost is a donation with $20 as the suggested donation. Money is also raised through a silent auction with lots of really great items.

New this year is pre-ski yoga (10:30am to 11:15am) at the Birch Hill Cross Country Ski Center.

Of course, Ski for Women also includes skiing. A 5-kilometer course will be marked and groomed. Ski as much of the course as you want. Also included: a post-ski potluck, the silent auction, free kick-waxing, and door prizes. Females of all ages are invited. Entry fee is by donation. Males of all ages are welcome to show their support by making a donation and cheering on the female skiers.

If Mother Nature turns up the temperatures too high and melts the snow, the event will still go on and may include a walk instead of a ski. In any event, the potluck, silent auction, and costume contest will still take place.

The mission of Ski for Women is to increase the number of females in the Fairbanks cross-country ski community through an annual fundraiser that is supportive and non-competitive. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living (IAC)which offers programs for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault..
