Results from the Buetow Dental Distance Series #3, the Raven Romp, are listed below in text format.  Excellent tracks, fast snow, nice course and good competition.  Temperatures were in the mid-single digits, but the freshly groomed snow was quite speedy nonetheless.  Shalane Frost was the overall winner for the 30Km race, just edging out UAF Coach Christina Turman.  Joel Buth won the men's 30Km and was third overall behind Frost and Turman.  UAF skier Nicole Bathe, just back from the U23 World Championships won the 10Km race by more than four minutes over visiting German skier Franziska Strobel.

Three dozen hardy souls braved -8F to -10F temperatures and slow (but beautifully groomed) tracks to complete the 10Km and 20Km distances in the second race in the Buetow Dental Distance Series, presented by Raven Cross Country.  Nine skiers completed one lap of the 10Km course, while 27 skiers did two laps for the full 20Km experience.

The first race in the 18th Annual Buetow Dental Distance Series, presented by Raven Cross Country and organized by the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks is scheduled for Saturday, December 10.  The 15Km mass-start, freestyle technique event, starts at 11:00AM in the Birch Hill Ski Stadium at the Birch Hill Recreation Area.  A 7.5Km event is available for those wishing to race a shorter distance.  The Buetow Dental distance series is a great way to prepare for the annual Sonot Kkaazoot.

The 2016-2017 Series’ first race is the Gundeloppet, named in honor of Gunde Svan, who won the 1984 FIS Men's World Cup race in Fairbanks on a course very similar to the one that will be raced on Saturday.  Entry forms may be picked up and dropped off at Raven Cross Country, Beaver Sports and Trax Outdoor Center through 5:00PM Thursday, December 8, and may also be picked up at Goldstream Sports, and the Birch Hill Cross Country Ski Center.

Entry fees are $15 for NSCF members, and $20 for non-members.  Race day entries will be accepted between 9:45AM and 10:45AM but will be $5 more than the early entry fee.

Raven Cross Country will provide door prizes that will be awarded at each of the three races in the series as well as a grand prize to be awarded at the conclusion of the series.  Proceeds over and above expenses from the race go toward supporting the Lathrop High School Ski Team.

The second race in the three-race series, a mass-start, classic technique 20Km with a 10Km option, is scheduled for Saturday, January 7.  The final race in the series is a 30Km freestyle technique mass start, scheduled for Sunday, February 19.
