Looking for some entertainment and exercise?  Enter the Run For Your Life Zombie 5k run/walk on Saturday, May 14, at Birch Hill Recreation Area. You can be a runner or a walker, human or undead.

This is truly a fun run, complete with an adrenaline rush or two. Participants register as either a zombie or a human.  Humans are given a flag football belt with three flags denoting three "lives" and head out on the Birch Hill trails either walking or running.  Most zombies chase the runners/walkers, but a few of the undead are stationed in ambush areas along the 5k trail.

Zombies try to capture as many flags or "lives" as they can. The human who crosses the finish line first with at least one “life” (flag) remaining is the winner. Prizes will be given to the top human finishers, top zombie life-takers, and best costumes.

All proceeds benefit NSCF-FXC, the junior racing program of the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks. To register online, please visit:

The annual Spring Gala will be held on Saturday, April 16, at Birch Hill Cross Country Ski Center, from 7:30pm-11:00pm. Local microbrew beer and wine is available at the bar.  Appetizers are provided, along with a dessert auction and a silent auction full of incredible items and services.  DJ Jim Matherly will get the party going with some great dance music!

It’s a great night out for adults, and designed for the community as a whole, not just skiers. So please invite your friends!

Tickets are $15 at the door, but can also be purchased from NSCF-FXC athletes.

The 10th Annual ConocoPhillips Interior Youth Festival will be held at Birch Hill Recreation Area Saturday, March 19th. All elementary and junior high skiers are welcome to join in the festivities.

This fun day-long event is all about young skiers. Other ski races, such as the Kinross Fort Knox Town Race Series and ConocoPhillips Besh Cups, feature older skiers, who often get the spotlight. During the ConocoPhillips Interior Youth Festival the younger skiers are the main attraction. The shorter distances are geared for youth and allow the skiers to try multiple formats in a single day. The three races include a mass start skate technique race, a 100-meter classic sprint, and a freestyle ski-cross.
