Junior Nordics

NSCF Junior Nordics provides an opportunity for children to enjoy the Fairbanks winter while learning the sport of cross country skiing. Children ages 4 to 14 of all abilities are welcome to join and learn a sport they can pursue for a lifetime. The emphasis is on fun, fitness, and learning proper technique.

NSCF Junior Nordics skiers receive instruction in both classical and skate techniques from enthusiastic and dedicated coaches. Skiers learn proper care and handling of equipment, trail etiquette, good sportsmanship and how to act responsibly in the outdoors. A typical practice session will include a warm-up period, a lesson in a technique and appropriate length group ski on the trails, ending with a fun activity.

NSCF Junior Nordics is hosting an Ski & Gear Swap this Sunday, October 4, starting at 1 pm. This event will bring together prospective buyers and sellers of XC ski, running, and biking gear.  It’s a great opportunity to help out fellow Junior Nordic families, de-clutter your homes and make good use of the opportunity to find next season’s gear! Swap will be held inside the Birch Hill Cross Country Ski Center (upstairs in the Big Red Building) or if it’s a nice day, outside on the stadium grass. Bring your own tarp.

After a postponement due to cold, this Sunday, Feb 15, will be the 9th edition of the ConocoPhillips Winter Carnival, a fun hour-and-a-half filled with ski games and a scavenger hunt.

Due to the cold temps and not quite enough warming expected to reach our temp cut-off of -5F, we are postponing the ConocoPhillips Winter Carnival until next Sunday Feb 15.  See story below for more details on the event.
