Several tours have been scheduled and are listed below. More will be announced as they are added.

People interested in leading and or sharing their favorite ski trail, please contact Mike Schmoker (This email address is being protected from spambots. They would like to see a range of different tours offered in terms of location, length and difficulty. Even if you are not hard-core, and prefer a shorter and less challenging outing, rest assured that other club members may want to join you.

As the touring schedule develops, some tours will be planned far enough in advance to be listed in the Alaska Nordic Skier newsletter, while others will be posted to the touring page on the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks website, and /or announced through the listserv.   • Saturday, January 24, 2015 - North Eldorado Ridge to Goldstream Road. Meet at 10:30am at the pullout across from Buck’s Drive on Goldstream, then a short car shuttle to the trailhead at the top of Pandora drive. This is a long ski (4 plus hours) along the top of Eldorado ridge (or East O'Conner Ridge) and then dropping down to Eldorado Creek Trail and skiing back to our cars.   • Saturday, February 14, 2015 - Glenn Creek “Red Hot Mama” Roundtrip. Meet at 11am at UAF/CRREL Permafrost Tunnel parking lot off the New Steese Highway just before Fox. Intermediate level, 2.5 hours, rolling terrain with long climb up (if have skins, bring) through mixed forest, then rollicking descent back the way we came with the best woodsy turns anywhere. Usually cold, but includes a climb out of the inversion.  Canines always welcome. Leader: Philip S. Marshall (457-3895). 

  • Saturday, February 21, 2015. Goldstream Sports Classic Trails Tour. Start time and place: Noon at Goldstream Sports parking lot. 

    Estimated time: Up to 2 hours. 

    Description: A tour of the classic-only ski trails that start at Goldstream Sports.

  • March 1, 2015 - Ester Neighborhood Tour. This is a 5 mile, 3-hour tour that ascends from Ester to the Equinox Marathon Trail and back to Ester on the Backdoor Trail (aka Eva Creek Trail). Intermediate level herringbone and snowplow skills will be helpful. Meet at Ester Post Office at 12pm. Soup will be provided at my house after the tour.   •  Sunday, March 8, 2015. “Rat Pond” Tour. Start time and place: 11am at Stan’s house (1750 Reed Circle). Estimated time: About 2 hours. Description: This tour is about 4 miles.  It is mostly flat.  It uses some of the mushing trails to get to Muskrat Ponds, a charming string of ponds between College and Farmer’s Loop roads.  From there we circle around to peat ponds.  If the stars align correctly we will have a set track.  Hot chocolate at Stan’s afterwards. Leader: Stan Justice (479-5017; stanjustice[at]acsalaska.net)
  • March 22, 2015 - Stew on the Slough. Ev Wenrick ’s 19th year of leading this ski down the Tanana River. Meet at 11am at the campground on Chena Pump Road. Contact Ev at Beaver Sports (479-2494).
