The Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks is pleased to announce the fourth race in the 17th Annual Flint Hills Resources Town Race Series, the  Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks Open, will be held Saturday, January 26, at 11:00am at the Jim Whisenhant Ski Trails at Birch Hill Recreation Area.  The Flint Hills Resources Town Race Series provides a competitive forum for skiers of all ages beginning with pre-schoolers.  Over 200 entries are anticipated.

Racing begins at 11:00am in free technique with high school and adult classes in interval start format: 5Km for men and 5Km for women.  The race will be held on the same course to be used for the free technique interval start event at the 2013 Junior National Championships, so it is an excellent opportunity for local skiers who may be racing at the 2013 JN’s to get competition experience on the course.

The warm weather and fresh snow brought out a large crowd for the third race in the 17th Annual Flint Hills Resources Town Race Series, the Woolly Rhino Classic. A total of 147 skiers competed in races ranging from 1km to 10Km.

Good morning-

As of 9:30 AM the temperature at Birch Hill has stabilized at -23F.  However, we have not seen any warming trend over the past day, and rather than stringing out the process, we have decided to CANCEL today's race.

Thanks for your patience.

Outside of the Candy Cane Race tomorrow, the next major event on the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks' schedule is the 9th annual Wells Fargo Ski Your Age in Kilometers presented by Stoltz Dental Group and BannerHealth/Fairbanks Memorial Hospital to be held on December 26th.  Stay tuned for more details.

The Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks is pleased to announce that the Seventeenth annual Flint Hills Resources Town Race Series continues with the Woolly Rhino Classic, Saturday, January 12, at 11:00am at the Jim Whisenhant Ski Trails at Birch Hill Recreation Area.

Good Morning!  It is clear and beautiful out in the woods, but it is COLD!

We are currently watching the weather here at Birch Hill.  At this point the temperature is -23F and has been cooling slightly over the past couple of hours.  We feel it is unlikely that the weather will warm-up 13F to hold the youth races by this afternoon so we are going to go ahead and CANCEL THE YOUTH RACES (elementary and middle school) for Town Race #2

We are still holding some hope for the HS/Adult 5km races that are slated to start at Noon and plan on making the decision not later than 10 AM and possibly sooner.

Announcements will be made on the NSCF website, Facebook and via the NSCF listserve.
